The variety of social media platforms available are an excellent tool to help you at every stage of your event. Here are 6 ways you should be using social media before, during and after your event.

BEFORE THE EVENT

Create a snappy hashtag

You need a unique, short and memorable hashtag that you can share before your event to start the online conversation and create a buzz. Make sure to include this on every piece of online content you share and encourage others to do the same.

Shout about your event

Create a schedule of social media posts in the run up to your event. These posts can be tagging key speakers or suppliers, sharing the schedule for the day or asking delegates what they want to hear discussed at the event.

DURING THE EVENT

Engage your audience

Encourage attendees to get involved and post during your event using your hashtag, whether this be with comments on a topic discussed, sharing a memorable quote from the day or asking a question. At the beginning of your event, why not offer a prize for the best post of the day?

Stream and share

Select a designated social media champion on your team to tweet, live video, share pictures and posts throughout the event, creating a constant stream of activity online. This frees you up to focus on running your event, and allows those delegates who can’t attend to follow the action.

AFTER THE EVENT

Get feedback

Social media is a quick and easy way to get an idea of how attendees found your event, by asking for feedback and following the conversation online. This is invaluable for your next event, providing pointers on how you could improve.

Make your content work

Don’t let all the content go to waste! Create blogs out of key topics discussed, do #ThrowBackThursday posts about the event, share pictures and videos – keep the buzz going as long as possible.
